Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions

Jersey City, NJ or virtual anywhere in NJ, NY, & FL

Do you resonate with any of these statements about your child:

"My child won’t sleep alone. We’re all exhausted and running on fumes."

"It feels like I spend all day trying to convince my child that everything is okay—even when there's nothing wrong."

"We can’t go on a date night without being called home. Our child will call us 100 times, or the sitter says they won’t stop crying for us.”

"They panic if I leave the room, even for a minute."

You're not alone if any of this sounds familiar. Many loving, dedicated parents come to me feeling overwhelmed, unsure, and exhausted — not because they're doing something wrong, but because parenting a sensitive or anxious child is hard.

I help parents of anxious children using a treatment called Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions (SPACE). Unlike traditional child therapy, SPACE focuses on empowering you the parent to create meaningful change in your child’s life.

Is SPACE Right For My Family?

Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions can be incredibly helpful if your child ages 4-18 years old is struggling with:

  • Separation Anxiety

  • Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder

  • Generalized Anxiety or constant “what ifs”

  • Sleep Difficulties

  • Social Anxiety

  • Panic Attacks

  • Phobias

  • School Refusal

You do not have to wait for your child to be “ready” for therapy. SPACE works even if your child is unwilling or unable to participate directly—because you become the change that is needed.

What is SPACE?

SPACE is a parent-based treatment developed at the Yale Child Study Center for children and teens dealing with anxiety disorders. Instead of changing your child’s behavior directly, SPACE helps you change how you respond to anxiety in supportive, strategic ways.

Through this work, you'll learn how to:

  • Offer emotional support without reinforcing anxiety

  • Reduce the way you accommodate their fears without creating conflict

  • Set compassionate boundaries that build trust and confidence

  • Help your child face challenges with resilience

What to Expect

We’ll start by understanding your child’s anxiety and how it’s impacting your family. We’ll look at the patterns that have taken hold. You’ll gain practical tools, language, and strategies to reduce anxious behaviors while maintaining empathy and connection.

Our work is:

  • Collaborative: You’re the expert on your child—I bring guidance and structure.

  • Judgment-free: No shaming, blaming, or “fixing” here.

  • Rooted in science: SPACE has a growing base of clinical evidence.

  • Empowering: You'll feel more confident and grounded in your parenting.

  • Short-term: Plan to attend up to 12-sessions of treatment.

  • Convenient: In-person in Jersey City, NJ or virtual anywhere in NJ, NY, & FL

Hi, I’m Stephanie.

As a licensed therapist (and parent), I know how overwhelming it is when your child’s anxiety starts running the show—and how quickly your home life can revolve around avoiding meltdowns, school refusal, or bedtime battles.

With SPACE, we focus on supporting you as the parent. We’ll work together to shift patterns, reduce your child’s anxiety without reinforcing it, and bring calm back to your household. This isn’t about being a “perfect” parent—it’s about being an empowered one, even in the hardest moments.

I have an office in Jersey City, NJ or practice virtually anywhere in NJ, NY, & FL.

So often, parents are expected to shoulder it all. The weight of anxiety in the home—especially when it’s your child’s—can feel unbearable. You don’t have to carry this alone. There’s no shame in asking for help. In fact, it’s one of the most loving things you can do for your family.

You’re here because you care deeply. Let’s turn that care into change.
